I still see it in my mind. . .
the fighting. . .
the fallen comrades. . .
I still hear it in my mind. . .
the screams of the wounded. . .
the cries of those who have lost their loved ones. . .
the clanging of swords. . .
the roar of the enemy. . .
I still feel it in my mind. . .
the tension of the air. . .
the fear we all felt. . .
the fright of losing each other. . .
Though today I am not at war. . .
I still feel as though I am being watched
By the enemy. . .
As if I should fight. . .
Some part of me still waits
For the blast of guns. . .
the clang of steel upon steel. . .
Some nights I awake from nightmares
About those I love falling
Slain upon the battlefield. . .
I am afraid to let go of those I love. . .
Because I never know. . .
What day will be their last. . .
Much less mine. . .
This poem is dedicated to all U.S soldiers everywhere who suffer from PTSD and to their families. I pray God will care for you and keep you and bless you all your days.
Numbers 6: 25- “The LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.”
God bless all.
