Whatβs the most profound piece of advice Iβve been given? Did I take it?
“Do what you love because you love doing it.”
The quote comes from my mom, who’s told me that over and over, countless times. Too often I get caught up in trying to do something because I wish to achieve something or to be noticed, even though that’s not my main goal at all. I get frustrated when something’s messed up or an error is noticeable. When I draw or write something stupid or confusing, I hope no ever finds out about it. It’s an extremely bad habit of mine.
But you know what?
I recently discovered a very strange secret that I want to share with everyone because I think we all need it.
The less perfect we try to be, the better our achievements get.
I figured that out a while back when I was trying to draw a certain character from an image. I couldn’t get it exactly right and I was getting very frustrated. Finally, I gave up on the image and began drawing it from my perspective and my mind. It looked brilliant, and I liked it. The same applies to my writing. When I try to be perfect, I struggle with writers’ block and can’t get an adequate story out of my imagination. When I’m simplistic and to the point, the story is amazing. I’m not kidding. It really works.
No one is perfect.
So don’t try to be something you’re not.
Be who God designed you to be.
