My Ideal World

If I had to describe my ideal life, what would it look like?

Hmmm. . .toughie. There are a million possibilities I could choose from. But I’m going to shoot straight and try to jumble together at least three things that would make my ideal life.

  1. Talking animals (and I’m not talking about parrots). Imagine how seriously cool it would be to wake up to your dog standing by your bedside and saying, “Good morning, owner! Have a nice sleep?”
  2. Owning a horse. I don’t own any kind of horse at the moment, but I’m hoping to save enough to get one. Now all I have to do is find a place to house it!
  3. Everyone getting along and no one having fights. Imagine how neat it would be if no one ever fought together or badmouthed each other!

These, however, are unattainable fantasies (at least some are). But there is good news. There is a perfect life where no one will ever fight, never murder, never steal, never gossip. And that place is called Heaven.

This world has fallen into sin and despair and only God can turn an evil, corrupted universe into a beautiful, glorious haven. If we believe, trust, and obey that Jesus is God, that He died for our sins, was buried, and rose again for us, and that He is the true Son of God and the only Savior of the world, you shall be saved. And when you die, you shall go to that ideal place where nothing bad or sad will ever happen again. It is a world of eternal bliss and beauty beyond our thinking.

The Navigatorβ€”Jesus

What gives me direction in life?

God’s Word and the Lord Himself give me direction. Without the Lord, we have no direction. We are lost in a wilderness of despair, worry, hopelessness, anxiety, fear, and unsurety.

If we try to navigate the road of life all on our own, we’ll get hopelessly lost. We think we can walk this road all by ourselves, but we can’t. And we know we can’t. We just don’t like to admit so. We want to prove we can live without Christ guiding us. But with that attitude, always we prove the oppositeβ€”without Christ, we don’t know which way to go. We’re lost.

That’s why we need a Navigatorβ€”Jesus Christ. Give him the map and let Him take you where He knows you need to go!

Keeping It Real

What’s a risk I took that I do not regret?

Keeping it real.

I write all the time. I love writing, and I have mentioned this several times. I write about the happy and butterflies-and-rainbows side of life. On the other side of the coin is the darker times of life, and I have no regrets on writing about that. I understand there’s a time and place for writing about certain subjects and that certain topics should be worded carefully for certain age groups, but I have no regrets about writing those things. At all.

Understand, everyone, that though I write about the happier sides of life, I am more of a darker-side person. I grew up in a fantastic Christian home with wonderful, protective parents, and I was taught the Bible and went to church. But somewhere along the way, I took to writing about the darker side of life more than the happy times.

About a year or two before I reached adolescence, I became extremely rebellious. I refused to obey my parents and looked at things on the Internet I should not have. And that, I am afraid, is when I became more dark-sided that happy-sided. Up to that point, I had never heard of much of the stuff I had looked at. And like an idiot, I chose to think on and write about those things in a graphic manner (even including bad words), even though I didn’t understand them.

I finally came to my senses about a year later. I repented and vowed never to do such a thing again. I decided from that day forward I would be careful about what I wrote to others. I understand my writing topics may seem a bit over the edge nowβ€”and I have to admit sometimes they areβ€”but I’m very careful never to go over the edge like I did before. (Just be thankful you never saw my earlier stuff. That was a nightmare!)

Now I write darker things to warn others of the dangers of evil and to show God’s hand through it all. As I put it in my post “Improving My Community”:

“I will speak out if no one else will. I will be the realistic voice for the evils in the world if no one else will. And I don’t care what it costs.”

I will speak out. Even if it means I have to face a firing squad or possibly get thrown in prison, I will speak out. Even if it costs me everything, I will not back down. I refuse.

There’s a reason I write this blog. Even if it is dark-sided at times, ultimately, there is hope amidst the horror. And that’s the point I want to make to everyone.

God bless.

Eye Spy

What makes me nervous?

Being watched. It’s eerie. I’ll be in the store or walking down the street and this random man or woman will either be behind me or in front of me, somehow ending up in every place I am. They’ll be watching me, marking my every move. It’s just weird as heck. And don’t even get me started on being chased by creeps occasionally. Now that’s terrifying. Nothing has ever happened to me, but still, I think a few of us can relate to being spied upon or pursued by desultory people.

Thankfully, God is by my side no matter where I go. He watches over me and keeps me safe. As the psalmist says in Psalms 121:5-8 (NIV): “The LORD watches over youβ€” the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harmβ€” he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”Β We don’t need to fear any evil on this earth, for the Light of the world is residing with us.

So whenever you’re being spied upon by a random individual, remember this verse! And also remember that God loves everyone! Witness to your pursuer if given a chance!

Believing in Yourself

What’s a decision I made in the past that helped me to learn or grow?

Believe in yourself.

Yep. Believe in yourself.

I have always wanted to be a writer. . .and I am one at this moment. But the core values of writing were not always obvious to me. At one point, I wrote just for fun. At another, I wrote hoping to get better at it and maybe win a few awards one day. Now I write merely because I enjoy it and to teach others about God.

But in between, I had my doubts.

I still do, honestly.

There are days when I want to step back from the keyboard and quit.

Days when I critically survey my own writing and hate it.

Days I think I’m no good at writing when I compare my work and someone else’s.

But I never quit.

Why?

Because I can’t.

I made the writer’s commitment. . .and now I have to stick to it.

I will stick to it.

I am good at writing.

I will not believe the lies in my head.

Believe in yourself. . .
