“Dreams of Shadow”

They’re in your head

You can’t awake

You’re too afraid

Unable to shake

The dreams that hold you

Captive and bound

That seal you in shadow

That engulf and surround

Your heart and soul

Your body and mind

You’re scared to death

Just want to leave ’em behind.

The thoughts you hide

You can’t deny

They haunt you daily

And stifle your cry

For help, your silent plea

That carries for miles

In the depths of your mind

But no one can hear

You’ve been left behind

To the mercy of the shadows.

They’ll show you none

But haunt you till

You drive them away

Not of your will

But your Father’s alone.

He sits on high

On His heavenly throne

With his Son, Jesus Christ

The One Who died

And paid the heavy price

So we now abide

In His heavenly abode

Eternally.

Amen.

The shadows referred to here are the suppressed thoughts and unacknowledged emotions we hold inside, that we never reveal. The Lord knows what we hide inside, and the point of the poem is to remind us that nothing is too big for God to handle. We can take all our needs to Him.
